Lately, the closing of civic space has become a huge debate, with academics, and human rights defenders discussing its causes and impacts. This phenomenon is a serious threat against civic freedoms and political rights and is perpetrated through restrictions of foreign funding, barriers to registration, arbitrary arrests, and smear campaigns against organizations that have made funders question their current strategies.
Ujamaa Center works in collaboration with national and county-based actors to push-back on the shrinking civic space while advocating for the implementation of the Public Benefits Organisations Act 2014 also known as the PBO Act. Ujamaa Center is a member of the Civil Society Reference Group a national network of Civil Society Organisations that pushes for an enabling environment for CSOs work and is the convener in charge of membership.
